A few impressions from Obon

Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the departed. The Obon festival usually lasts 3 days, most often during the summer. The Bon Dance offers vibrant and impressionistic scenes, especially as the sun begins to fade.

Lanterns are strung across the dance circle, usually from the yagura (central bandstand).

Dancer with sensu (fan).

Crowds of people gather in a large circle to perform various odori (dances).
